“Dark Daze Vol 1”
- Q. So how did it all begin?
A. I’ve played music since I was 16 But my interest in bass music all began around 4 years ago. My friend owned an indoor skatepark we all use to chill in, amazing community. Once he held a night down there and some guys brought a system down. That was my first true bass experience I just really felt a connection.
- Q. Where did the name come from?
A. I was in a band called Dead Foxxes, things didn’t end up panning out as we envisioned and we parted ways. Our logo was the fox head with two crossed eyes for the two X’s in the name. I thought I’d bring him back to life in my own vision hence why one of his eyes is missing in my logo.
- Q. What gave you that initial push?
A. I’ve actually played with production and composition a fair bit throughout my musical endeavors but I never took it seriously I’d just make things for fun with friends nothing with any real focus until more recently.
- Q. What was your first record you bought?
A. The first record I ever bought was a Roots Reggae compilation
- Q. Out of all the tunes you have, which one ‘never fails?’
A. Everytime I hear “Kromestar – Mer Sher” I feel like there is raw emotion and power in that tune.
- Q. What’s you favourite tune of all time?
A. It’s really hard for me to have a favourite it all depends on my mood and what’s going on around me which affects what pleases my ear at the time. Bukez Finest – Under control comes to mind at the moment, I can remember the first time I heard that drop and thought it was massive.
- Q. When all the partying is over how do you like to chill out?
A. When I’m not partying I’m and home with my cats and my girlfriend, I like to play guitar and I’m a bit of a game nerd too!
- Q. So how is the dubstep scene in your eyes at the moment?
A. I think the scene is strong there are a lot of producers making some amazing tunes at the moment. I really feel like when you look back as well it’s constantly evolving into new sounds. Of all the music I’ve been involved with I think the community really shines there is a lot of love and support from everyone involved. I feel more people would really get something from it if they could experience it for themselves in the right environment.
- Q. Funniest thing that ever happened at an event?
A. One thing that sticks out in my mind was the first sub pulse hosted by chug from sub fm. Me Chug and Bunzero were all sitting at the bus stop and a girl came and preceded to empty her bag looking for her travel card. she handed Bunzero a perfume, some make up then one of her thongs! Was pretty funny seeing the look on his face.
- Q. Other Producers you rate?
A. I really like Foamplate he makes some great tunes and also Freud is a great producer!
- Q. What are your feelings on MC’s?
A. I don’t mind MCs at all some guys have great things to talk about and anything that can compliment the music even make it more accessible to people is good in my eyes.
- Q. What do you do outside of the music scene?
A. Most of the time I spend writing music, playing computer games and working!
- Q. How can people find out more about you and what you’re doing?
A. My Soundcloud page: soundcloud.com/phoxaudio
